Evaluation Questions 1-7

  1. Q1 - You need to identify specific examples of magazines where you have identified these particular conventions. So for example, you state that 'often in magazines featuring girl groups, they tend to...' This isn't sufficient. I want to see magazines that use this convention, then I want you to actually show an example of this. If you have carried out your research appropriately - this will already be on your blog - you just need to go back and find it and screen shot it. I want to see visual evidence of you identifying conventions from existing magazines and then I want to see screen shots of how you have actually used or manipulated these conventions in your own product, with an explanation as to why you have decided to use this particular convention, or why you have decided to challenge or manipulate it.
Why did you use such different colours? Is this a convention? Can I see where it's being used and how you are using it?
You don't seem to have mentioned your DPS?
Q2 - You need to consider how you are representing young mixed race females and how you are representing young people who are interested in RnB and Hip Hop.
Again, use screen shots to make your work more visual.
You could also consider your target audience research here - and consider how your findings about your target audience informed you about the type of social groups you decided to represent in your magazine.
Q3 - You need to explain how a music company might distribute your magazine. Who are they?
Consider particular websites that might promote your magazine other than music websites.
Q4 - You might want to make mention of your initial audience research here and comment on what else you learnt about your target audience from this research. What does this audience like/dislike? I think you also need to consider the age of music you are promoting more carefully. If you are targeting people who would recognise this era of music then you need to consider that people in the 90s listening to this in their teens, would now be over 30.
And are you sure that you are purely targeting girls? Wouldn't males be interested in reading about Jodeci or Joe.

  2. Q5 - Take out the comments on camera quality and shots - this wouldn't attract your specific audience. You need to link this answer to your previous one. You should have built up a detailed character profile of your target audience in the previous response so now you need to consider how you have tried to target these people through the image, the colour, the font, the content etc. Much of this should already have been considered and explained in your research and planning process so you should just be able to go back through your blog and find evidence of this.
Again, screen shots of examples would be better here rather than just written text.
Make sure you come back to the question - how do these features target your audience? Why would these features engage your target audience?
Q6 - This would be so much more powerful if you could have a video or screen shots to support the points you are making. I would like to see evidence of you actually using these softwares and tools with you explaining how they have been used and why. What effects did they enable you to achieve?
Try not to just list things - think carefully about specific examples and provide a more detailed and visual explanation of how you used these technologies.
Q7 - Once again, this would be better if you could make visual links between the school magazine and your final music products. Put them side by side and comment on how you used certain features in the preliminary task and then explain how you have used them now in your final product with an explanation about what you learnt, and how you learnt it.
You state that you didn't consider the target audience in the first task but you have in the final - so what effect do you think this has had? How has it improved your final piece having the understanding of the target audience?
Comment on your understanding of particular softwares, programmes, technologies as well as understanding about research and how it influences ideas, understanding of layout and colour and font etc. Much more needed here.
You must present each question separately and move away from text only. Examiners do not want to see a lot of writing, so use screen shots, bullet points, videos, audio clips, and voice overs, including different platforms to present your responses.
